Save the Paradise is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing deforestation of the Chocó rainforest in the Mompiche area. We achieve this by purchasing land and legally designating it as an ecological reserve in perpetuity. Additionally, we have established the CoNeMo network of landowners to create a wildlife corridor by acquiring larger, connected areas. Lastly, we aim to reduce the need for the sale of privately owned land through various social and microeconomic projects.
We also prevented that 1,5 hectare of land is being used for a pig-farm. For the Mompiche this means that one of the sources for clean water is save.
One third of the world's cocoa crop is fairly traded and one third of the world's cocoa farmers live below the absolute poverty line. And this has been the case for decades. What would have to change for something to actually change.
Save The Paradise is working on the implementation of several projects in the Mompiche region with ecological, economical and social background to achieve a holistic and sustainable change.
Ecuador is a rich and a poor country. On the one hand, it is one of the world's top biodiversity hotspots and rich in nature. Economically, however, it has few resources and important exports such as shrimp are partly responsible for the destruction of nature. In Esmeraldas, these contrasts are particularly harsh. Here you can learn more about the background of the ongoing crisis.
Most of our activities depend on receiving regular donations that allow us, above all, to save the jungle from deforestation. In Mompiche, land is always for sale and those who want it for livestock or monoculture plantations always have enough money.
